The hemorrhoids are treated initially to relieve the symptoms. You can get relief for internal hemorrhoids by using the following methods.

Sitz bath – This treatment improves the blood circulation in the area affected so that the pain and swelling are reduced; the patient takes a warm water bath in a tub and the water covers his hips and buttocks. In this method, the patient takes bath in warm water bathtub covering his buttocks and hips; this will increase the circulation of blood in that area thereby reducing the discomfort and swelling.

Ice Packs – If the hemorrhoids are severe, apply an icepack at the anal part.

Treat the affected areas with cortisone creams or suppositories, petroleum jelly, or hemorrhoidal cream.

Cotton underwear and loose clothing should be worn.

After every bowel movement, the anus must be cleaned with moist toilet paper.

Pain killers – These are used only to reduce itchiness and pain; they do not heal hemorrhoids.

Enemas – Having enema with plain warm water is useful for relieving the fecal impaction and constipation.Enema functions as a bowel stimulant.

OTC medications

Treatment of hemorrhoid using OTC medications is possible if it is in the early stages. Ointments, petroleum jellies, creams, and laxatives are commonly used medications. The best known treatment is to use hemorrhoids cream that contain hydrocortisone and antiseptics.

The treatments carried out for internal hemorrhoids are as follows.

Rubber Band Ligation – This treatment is carried out at the outpatient department; this is useful for treating 2nd degree internal hemorrhoids. This is a non-surgical procedure wherein a rubber band is tied on the tissue inflamed thereby reducing the blood flow.

Injection Sclerotherapy – In this method, a chemical solution is injected into the mucous membrane that is located nearer to the hemorrhoid. This chemical facilitates veins inflammation and closure and this shrinks the hemorrhoid.

Infrared Photocoagulation – is suitable for treating small/medium size hemorrhoids. The doctor applies heat on the hemorrhoids using the IR device, which coagulates the hemorrhoid’s dilated veins. The coagulated blood vessels do not permit the blood flow thereby cutting the blood supply and so the hemorrhoids die.

Laser Coagulation – This is a relatively new technique wherein electric current is passed through the hemorrhoid. The electric current produces a chemical reaction that stops the supply of blood to the hemorrhoids to shrink.

Hemorrhoidectomy – This procedure is surgical. The groups of hemorrhoid in the anal canal are surgically removed using a laser, cautery device or scalpel.

The above are just some ways to treat Hemorrhoids. Seek professional advice if you are going ahead with any of the above.
