People die for various reasons and causes, in a number of ways, and sometimes at a known or given time. For the dying, it could not be more difficult than that painful awareness of life’s end. For the living, it unimaginable to bear the fear and sorrow of seeing a dying loved one.
There is one word to describe the range of feelings that hit human fragility where death is concerned. The word is grief. Grieving is a distressing journey in itself. Most people emerge from the process fairly well. For some however, it is a dark pit of bottomless despair.
Emotional closeness within the living family is the best sustainance in every mourning process. Yet, each family member goes through what is known as the five phases of mourning. Also called the grief cycle, it begins with denial; then anger; bargaining; depression; and ending in acceptance.
It begins with denial. Disbelief is the initial reaction of everyone affected. There is that succinct question of “Why?.” There is that shielding coil of as refusal to take in reality.
When you do not want to see the truth because it is not our wanted mould of scenario, you become angry, which is the second stage. You get angry for the truth that seemed to have swiftly sprung up like the common thief in the night.
When the body gets tired with the downbeat energies, you attempt to offer a shabby trade, which is the bargaining part. This part is a relatively small leap of faith, yet it is a means of delusion, triggered by the helplessness of the situation.
When a person realizes that bargaining is headed nowhere, they go into misery, a phase that people go through, where they crave and need solitude.
Coming out of depression shows than acceptance has been achieved. It means that the death of a loved one has been accepted. This is a phase when you feel better. In many ways, it is a time to celebrate the opportunity of looking at life beautifully, even with its sometimes sad realities.
