When a swimming pool is built and opened to the public, safety issues are considered and planned for. but sometimes even the most thorough planning will not be enough to prevent and accident.

Trained lifeguards are typically on duty and their certifications are available for viewing, but their experience level may be in question. Drowning is not the only accident that can happen at a public swimming pool.

As well as making sure that swimmers are not put in danger in the water, the people running the pool need to ensure the surrounding area is safe. Swimming pool users have had thousands of pounds paid out through their accident claim if they have slipped on loose tiles, uneven surfaces or hurt themselves on sharp edges.

Pool users can present a danger to their fellow swimmers if they do not take enough care. People can be jumped on and bumped into when others are too rough in the water. Objects might also get into the pool which could hurt other people.

Although pools use chemicals to sterilise the water, there is still the possibility for diseases to be spread form swimmer to swimmer.

Nevertheless, these dangers should not people enjoying the summer with their friends at a local public swimming pool.

You will have more fun at a pool if you keep yourself and those around you safe by regulating your actions. If you are taking children to the pool with you then you need to make sure they are safe and that they do not cause dangers to those around them by running round.

Both those who swim at the pool and those who run it need to take responsibility for their safety and that of others around them.
