Crating A Frozen Fruit Smoothie For Family and Friends This Summer

Frozen fruit smoothies are always a favorite in my kitchen. They are quick and easy to make and quite healthy too. You can make these healthy drinks that will cool you down with all sorts of fruit and you can also mix different fruit. Let me explain exactly how to make a frozen fruit smoothie. It is very easy.
Here’s What You Need:
Let’s start with the hardware. You are going to need a blender. Almost any type of blender with a tight fitting lid will do. I like to make my smoothies individually in a small blender like the magic bullet. Of course regular blenders work just as well, plus you can make more servings at a time.
Frozen fruit comes next. You can make frozen smoothies with just about any type of fruit and of course also combinations of fruit. Some simple ones to start with are strawberries, bananas and peaches.
Most of my favorite smoothies have a little yogurt in them. I like the tart flavor and it creates a nice smooth texture. Low or non-fat yogurts are the most figure-friendly, but you can use any type of yogurt as well as any flavor. Another great option is thicker Greek yogurt.
Last but not least we will need some sort of liquid to help get the smoothie to a consistency that will work in the blender. Options are water, milk or various fruit juices. The amount of liquid you need will depend on how thick or thin you like your smoothie. A good ratio to use is 2-1-1 (frozen fruit – yogurt – liquid). A good example would be 2 cups frozen strawberries blended with 1 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt and 1 cup skim milk.
Add more or less liquid until your smoothie gets the consistency you like best. You can also throw in a few ice cubes and blend them into your smoothie
Let’s Start Blending :
Let’s talk about blending. I like to start with my fruit and yogurt and get it blended a bit before adding more liquids and ice (if needed). Pulsing seems to work best since it gives the larger fruit chunks a chance to sink back down in between blends. That way you will end up with a nice smooth smoothie.
Should your blender get to the point where it is having a hard time moving everything around, your smoothie is too thick. Add some more liquid and it will work just fine.
If you are planning on using a good bit of ice in your smoothie, start by chopping it in your blender first before you add any of the fruit or yogurt. It will help mix the other ingredients together.
By the way, you don’t have to stick to just frozen fruit in your smoothie. Feel free to mix both fresh and frozen fruits. For these frozen smoothies you can either buy fruit already frozen at the grocery store, or take your favorite fresh fruit and toss it in the freezer. Berries can be frozen whole.
Most of my frozen fruit smoothies contain frozen banana slices. I just peel any bananas that are starting to get a little too ripe and then cut them into slices. The banana slices go into a freezer bag and are popped into the freezer until I am ready to use them in a smoothie. Adding them gives your smoothie a nice creamy texture and adds some sweetness as well.
