Preparing Food Storage.

You can often hear different survivalist groups discuss what they store for their long term food storage and for short term food storage. It doesn’t make a lot of sense because the only difference between the long and short term food storages is the amount of food you should store.
People, who practice emergency food storage, have one saying that we should store what we eat, and eat what we store. There is no point in storing something you or your family members don’t eat. And if you don’t like certain food in short term, then you definitely will not want to eat it in several years. It is much wiser not to store food items you don’t care for and save money for buying and storing items you actually like. People, who say that they store food they don’t like to eat in their long term food storage, must not really understand the idea of emergency food storage. Usually, we should incorporate the products from our long term food storage with the food from short term food storage.
If you like to have mostly meat and vegetables in your meals, make sure you have a couple of freezers to store frozen meats and vegetables. Then in addition to that you can organize a food storage pantry for canned food and dry foods, which are also great for long term food storage. And in the kitchen you can store food products for your immediate needs.
If you are lucky to have plenty of room, you can store enough food not only for your family but also for your relatives in case they are not as fortunate to have their own food storage. You should store many different items and anything you might feel your family will need in case you have to survive some amount of time living off your food storage. If you use something up out of your food storage, you should purchase a couple more items to replace it. This way you don’t damage your family budget too much when you buy food supplies.
Most survivalists try to store at least a year’s food supply, which is readily available and put away for emergency situations. Besides food, your emergency storage should also have other necessities like matches, lamp oil, soap, toilet paper, deodorant, some medicine necessary for your family members and probably some things to keep your kids entertained like coloring books and crayons. In case you have to live in a semi-isolated environment, you will want to keep your kids busy and keep them from thinking about emergency.
Preparing your food storage is not that hard and usually can even help you save money on groceries, but it will also help your family survive in case of emergency.
