Cardiovascular diseases are usually the culprits why people die in our present generation. The reason behind this is today’s generation is fond of eating from fast food chains. Others are simply eating much salty and fatty food. Thus, it is really very necessary to take care of our heart to stay away from heart diseases. One way to do this is to have a low cholesterol diet. To keep your heart healthy, you may try the following tips.

First, it is important that your diet must contain sea foods even for just once a week. This is because sea foods have omega-3 that is beneficial to your heart. Aside from being delicious and tasty, sea foods have less saturated fat compared to dairy products. Sea foods don’t have to be expensive such as lobsters because other sea foods such as shells and fresh fish are also good sources of iodine and omega-3.

Next, cook vegetables in low-salt and low-fat manner. Since fresh vegetables are rich sources of vitamins, anti-oxidants and fiber, it is important that we get the maximum nutrients from the vegetables that we are eating. Overcooked vegetables lose their valuable nutrients because of heat. To get maximum nutritional value, it is even recommended to eat vegetables raw such as various vegetable salads. If cooked vegetables are preferred, cook them in low-salt or low-fat solution.

In cooking, using vegetable oil has a great advantage over cooking with commercial cooking oil. Compared to commercial cooking oil, vegetable oil has less saturated fats. It does not heat at once which makes cooking gradual and will not burn the food. Because it heats in the right temperature, whatever you cook using vegetable oil will retain its distinct flavor, taste and nutrients. If you are a meat-lover, then reduce saturated fat to have a low cholesterol diet.

Cook only the lean meat with no fat if possible. Lean meat may contain some fat, but at least you have lessened the amount of saturated fat. Take note also that broiling is much better than deep-frying. Cooking in direct heat will get rid of some saturated fats in contrast to frying where it tends to absorb more.

Really, having a low cholesterol diet could help us keep our hearts healthy. But do not rely so much on food to keep you healthy. Live a healthy lifestyle and perform some exercise if possible.
