The way people look at video games has changed a lot lately. People have been taken in by the idea of motion gaming ever since the Wii was first introduced. It is turning into a very competitive industry and although Nintendo was the original the competition is no longer sitting still as Microsoft and Sony are finding success with their own gesture based devices for controlling the companies’ respective video game consoles, the Xbox kinect 360 and PlayStation move which have recently taken the market by storm. Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony each are positioning themselves to grab their share of the entertainment dollars.
Sony and Microsoft have raised the bar on motion gaming. The graphics of the new systems are better than they have ever been. But they have also raised the bar on the price of the units and the accessories that come with them.
The manufacturers have not kept up with the supply of the individual controllers for the move and the Kinect system and because of that many people are clicking on the ads they see online that promise to show them how to get a free xbox 360 or how to enter into a contest to win a Playstation move while still others are turning to the stores and buying bundles that not only include the new motion controlled systems but also include the whole gaming console and several games that go with it. For some people this was the only way they could guarantee to have the right present under the Christmas tree.
The thought of motion gaming was not something that people thought would be very good. But the idea of controlling the movements with your body soon caught on. The new gaming platforms were good for the entire family. Wii bowling tournaments occurred in many people’s homes. Video games were no longer something that was to be enjoyed in a basement full of teenagers. It got people playing games who would have never considered it before.
The Nintendo system has sold more platforms than either of the other two. The advantage of the other two systems can be found in the way their action translates onto ht screen. Now they have gotten even better.
Sony’s control system uses a camera that tracks the wireless controller. Moving their body and the joystick at the same time is translated into action on the screen. Because of the interactive style of the games they could help a person impr4ove their abilities as they play. A person can use these games to hone their athletic skills or get into better shape by having a system that teaches them.
Xbox has created a platform that does not need a person to hold a joystick. The camera is able to detect the movements of several people that are standing or moving around in front of it. The person becomes the controller.
People are finding out they can get regular physical activity with the new platforms. But as technology gets better the platforms will perform more of a family’s entertainment needs. Or maybe you can become part of a movie you are watching on television. As the machines can do more it makes more economic sense for a person to invest in one. The platforms are more like computers these days. Interactive gaming will include a lot of things besides physical activity. Home entertainment is going to evolve into something completely different in the future. If the Gaming companies have their way, this will happen.
