Staying Motivated to Diet

An oft missed key ingredient in losing weight is the right diet motivation. All too often people will attempt to lose weight without purging themselves of negative thoughts. This could be part of your past diet failures. A positive attitude is very important when attempting to lose weight.
The whole think yourself thin ideal has some merit. More importantly stop thinking yourself fat. I know for me, once I found my diet motivation everything changed for the better. Once I had convinced myself that I was going to lose weight and get in shape there was a positive change in me.
Do not set goals that are unattainable. This is a case of wanting to be the tortoise not the hare. Don’t expect an overnight transformation in either your attitude or your weight. It’s important to make positive steps everyday.
Record your progress in a journal of some sort.A diet blog can be a great way to journal your weight loss. When you reach weight loss obstacles you should go over your journal to renew your diet motivation.
These 2 steps will help setup a proper foundation to help you keep your diet motivation. No matter what diet you decide to follow these tips will compliment it.
Step one, Plan for realistic results.:
First you will need to know the suggested weight for someone of you height and body type. Now just subtract your ideal weight from what you weigh now.
Now set a time frame to reach your goal. Ideally you should try to lose about two pounds a week, keep this in mind when you plan your time frame. With that in mind set weekly and monthly goals.
Setting realistic goals is very important. Setting unreachable goals is the worst thing you can do. If you want to kill your diet motivation completely this is the way to do it. What I call the “dieters doubts” can easily creep in when you miss your goals. You know when those feelings start to creep back in. The ones that say “Who am I kidding I’ll never lose this weight.” The next thing you know you’ve got a face full of double quarter pounder.
On the other hand realizing attainable goals can help to boost your confidence in a major way. Celebrating the small victories along the way are great to keep you motivated for the long haul.
Step two, Define your motivation to diet:
Where does your motivation to diet come from? This is something I can’t tell you. There are many good reasons people decide to start losing weight. So right now ask yourself what is your reason.
Are you sick of the ridicule? I know I was. Would you like to extend your life? Maybe your diet motivation is that you want to live longer for your kids or long enough to have kids and enjoy them. Do you want to be more attractive? This is another reason that motivated me to lose weight.
Those are just some examples of what motivated me to lose weight. Now it’s up to you, find out what it is that will keep you driven to lose weight. Remember to record all of them somewhere and keep them handy for those days when motivation is lacking.
These tips for diet motivation are not a substitute for a good weight loss program. Think of them as support for your “diet.” Find a good weight loss system and use these tips to get the most out of it.
