Colon Cleanse – Is It Really Necessary?

Colon cleanse is a delicate subject among health experts and doctors. Colon cleansing, also known as colonic irrigation, as some critics believe, is unnecessary. It is believed that our digestive system normally eliminates waste material and bacteria, hence, colon cleansing supplements or colon cleanse procedure are irrelevant. Because colon cleansing can increase the risk of dehydration, critics believe that it can even cause health problems. Due to some colon cleanse supplements having sodium phosphate as one of the ingredients; which may force the electrolytes to elevate; it may cause potentially fatal health problems, especially if you have a kidney or heart condition.
Although, colon cleansing is recommended by doctors for medical procedures such as colonoscopy, some of them do not advise colon cleanse procedure for detoxification. This is because there is very little scientific evidence to support or oppose the benefits of colon cleansing.
Many colon cleanse adherents believe that toxins from the gastrointestinal tract may cause health problems such as asthma, allergies, and arthritis. It is believed that colon cleansing can remove these toxins or pollutants from the gastrointestinal tract and therefore help promote a healthy well-being, produce more energy, and improve the immune system.
If you want to undergo a colon cleanse procedure, you must take a mental note of the following:
* Always ask your doctor if you are good to undergo colon cleansing – especially if you have any health issues, or if you are taking any medications.
* The equipment that is being used by the practitioner for colonic irrigation should be clean and disposable, so make sure of this information.
* Research on colon cleansing alternatives. Make certain that you are aware of the ingredients and the proper dosage of colon cleansing products, as some of these products may cause health risks.
* Don’t believe everything you read or hear about the claims that undergoing colon cleanse can cure diseases or illnesses.
* Drink lots and lots of fluids while undergoing colon cleansing, to prevent dehydration.
Mainly, there are two methods in colon cleanse, one is going to a practitioner to have a colon irrigation, and the other is buying colon cleanse products. There are many colon cleanse products that are available in the Internet and in health food stores. These products may include powders, strong herbal teas, enemas, antiparasite capsules, enzymes, and laxatives. These products can be taken either orally or through the rectum.
