Simple Proven Steps To Raising Healthy Children

In today’s society, it has unfortunately become increasingly harder to keep up on the health and nutrition of the lifestyles of our children. French fries and potato chips are prepackaged and ready right there for your children to eat. Picking up fast food is quick and easy, much faster than cooking up something at home, but unfortunately it is extremely unhealthy for our kids. Fortunately, taking the initiative to living a happier, healthier lifestyle does not require completely removing the indulgence and simplicity of junk food from our lives.

A great place to start is soft drinks and caffeine. Parents are introducing these sugary drinks to their children at younger and younger ages, and health wise these are poor choices for kids. Drinking too much soda can increase a child’s risks of dental cavities, caffeine addiction, obesity, and dehydration, especially as soft drinks are where children get the majority of their caffeine intake. Milk, water, and fruit juices are tasty and a much better alternative than sodas, and slowly introduced to your child in place of them, can really help improve your child’s health for now and the future.

Portion control is another key factor in your child’s health. In today’s society, portion sizes are absolutely huge, and more parents are feeding children amounts of food very similar to what an adult should be eating. By serving food on smaller plates, not only does a smaller portion appear larger, but also you just can’t fit the larger amount on there. Making sure your children always get the kids meals at restaurants and fast food chains is also key. By teaching your children about portion sizes when they’re young, you’re instilling a healthy idea of just how much food is “too” much for when they’re adults as well.

What child doesn’t try to sneak the cookies out of a cookie jar? Kids have always loved sweets, and it’s hard to resist the pleading eyes of your baby, but too many sweets can lead to obesity, diabetes, and many more health problems. Fruits are a great substitute for sweets, and slowly introducing fruits and fruit-related desserts is not only healthy, but can be very fun! Bursting with vitamins and antioxidants, fruits are not only healthy but also very colorful and pretty, and it can be a great bonding experience with your children concocting new and colorful fruity desserts.

Nothing is better than a homemade meal, but unfortunately with our busy lifestyles, sometimes we just have to spring for the fast food. A lot of fast food chains have come out with healthier alternatives to the french fries and sodas in your child’s meal, like milk and fruit slices, and these are much better options than their salty counterparts. Whenever you go to a fast food chain, make sure to keep an eye out for the healthier alternatives, and order those for your child instead.

Taking the steps toward a healthier lifestyle for your family doesn’t have to be difficult or immediate. Slow introduction to healthier lifestyle choices is always the best way to go about it, and it can actually be quite enjoyable when everybody gets involved! Child obesity is on the rise in America today, and helping to prevent your child from falling into the fad is growing ever more important.
