Make Cereals Count With Low Carb

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day; that much is true, but if you wake up from a good night’s sleep, all you want is to eat something – anything – and you don’t really want to put too much effort into searching for it. You want something filling right here, right now. Eggs are a great low carb option, but they tend to get old quite quickly. They also are bothersome to make in the mornings, especially when most of us barely have time to grab our much needed coffee. That is the reason cereal has become almost a staple in every breakfast meal.

If you are pressed for time, cereal can be eaten by itself or with milk. Cereal can be eaten in many ways. Unfortunately, most cereals are made from wheat or other grains which make them unsuitable for a low carb diet.

Seemingly, the target of the low carb cereal currently being marketed these days are the not-so-serious low carb dieters. It is also noticeable how these cereals have wheat and grains – ingredients that cause complications brought about by high carb diets. This makes them not-so-good options, really. However there are some low carb cereals that are not made from grains, and you should look for these grain-free options when you are shopping around. Therefore, look carefully at the ingredients list to make sure the cereal doesn’t contain grains.

Grains are quite problematic because our bodies are not made to fully digest them. It would take millions of years before grain digestion can be fully adopted by our body. History shows that grains had evolved to keep animals and humans from ingesting them. They do this by basically incorporating toxins into their structure. They contain toxins that are used to ward off humans and animals from eating them in the future. That’s why grains cannot be eaten raw. Uncooked rice, when ingested, could be catastrophic. You may hope to get rid of these toxins and other harmful components by cooking them thoroughly, but all that accomplishes is breaking them down, not getting rid of them entirely. That is the reason why lasting damage to the body can happen when it is subjected to prolonged ingestion of grains.

Due to the rarity of low carb cereals, we tend to settle for other low carb breakfast foods. One good option is hot cereal. You can easily make a bowl of porridge using flax meal and milk. It will only take a few minutes of your time. It has a porridge-like consistency that will surely satisfy you as much as fill you up.

If you aren’t such a big fan of hot cereals, you can try making your own pancakes. Yes, pancakes made from coconut flour are low carb. These can be made in advance, storing the others in the fridge as you enjoy some. All you have to do is pop it quickly in the microwave, add some sugar-free maple syrup or honey, and you are on your way to a fulfilling breakfast that took no time at all. Muffins made with coconut flour are also good snack options that you can bring with you to work. There are endless choices for breakfast foods even if cereal isn’t readily available.
