Whitening Teeth

Over time, teeth can stain. This can be made worse by red wine, coffee, tea, or cigarette smoke. Despite brushing and flossing your teeth on a frequent basis and in spite of your regular visits to the dentist, your teeth will stain to some degree.

There are a couple of different solutions. One is to have it sorted out professionally. The other is to purchase a do-it-yourself kit. A professional dental hygienist will be able to determine the best treatment for you.

By having the job done professionally, you will be sure to end up with great results. Also, the whitening process is straightforward and rapid. There is no guarantee, however, that you will have very white teeth; it depends on your original tooth condition. Teeth that are stained from within can not always be fully restored to their original whiteness.

Purchasing a home kit is also an option. It takes about two weeks and does not always result in the same whiteness as having it done professionally; but, if do exactly what the directions say, a decent result is possible.

Teeth whitening has become increasingly popular and is a service found at most dental offices. Dental clinics often have professional hygienists do the tooth whitening. However dentists also often perform the procedure if they do not have a hygienist. Patients who have had professional whitening are usually so happy with their smile that, after a while, they return to the dentist for a second treatment, to maintain the brightness of their teeth.

Directly following the process, the teeth are susceptible to staining; smoking and drinking coffee, tea or red wine are therefore not recommended at this time.

Even though home teeth whitening may well obtain excellent results, there are a number of tips to be followed before the use of teeth whitening products. To learn these rules, a visit to your dentist is highly recommended. He will be able to tell whether your teeth and gums are able to take the chemicals used in the process of home tooth whitening. Also, if you have tooth colored fillings or resin composite materials used in dental restorations (for example, veneers or crowns) that are stained, they will not whiten the same as your natural teeth and can clash if you are not careful. Your dentist will be able to give you his professional opinion.

In a nutshell, home tooth whitening solutions do work. However if you want a professional job, quick and dependable, you would be better off visiting a professional hygienist or dental expert and getting it done right the first time.
