Walking into the bar takes you back up to the 1920’s Speakeasies. Cramped seating, back bar mirrors, designated mugs, inexpensive drinks and very importantly, good associates. It is the gathering point for a set of close friends who share the thrill and burdens of the same business. It is the location where unwinding is permitted, even encouraged. This bar is a basement bar renowned to its pleasant patrons as the “K Bar”.
Around one o’clock, the textual messages start: ” This causes the anticipation to grow all evening. Referring to the nightfall plans as a “meeting” makes the event look like more endorsed. While the clock strikes 9, patrons start to filter into the region. Walking up the dark, cracked cement sidewalk around the in bloom lilac bushes provides an air of mystery, as if the entryway is concealed. There is no need to pound the entrygate. The primary door leads to a little landing with well-known green shag rug, and leads to the door at the prime of the basement stairs. There aren’t any illumination in the stairs. At the base of the stairs, there’s a quick curve. Cheerful friendly greetings let you know you’ve arrived: The K Bar is open.
You feel the old shag matting under your toes and see the marked glass suspending lamps. The bar by itself has a craggy oak appearance and seats for five. The L-shaped bar used to reside in a country saloon before being recovered and brought to its new house here. The craggy bar was recovered to its up to date form and now proudly located in the “man cave” in this suburban basement. 5 tall hunter green leather seats form the main seating at the bar and a high pub counter with four other seats round out the seating spot. Attention-grabbing signs mark the walls. The typical lit beer signs, one made of neon spelling out “Miller”, decorate one wall. On the wall other side of the bar is an etched mirror showing a sprucely poured pint of Guineess. To the left of the bar is something that amplifies every “man cave”: a flat screen Television. The most important part of the bar, however, is the large tailored mirrors that cling on the wall behind the bar. On one segment is a elegantly etched mirror that measures 15″ x 27″. Arched words on the topmost says “K-Bar” with an overflowing beer mug below. The personal tone of the mirror is concluded by the phrase “Friends Always Welcome” etched all along the bottom. On the right is a 13 x13 likewise encased octagonal custom bar mirror etched with an individual drawing of a Kellogg’s Cornflake looking “K” with “bar” written afterward and under the phrase, “Est. 2003.”
The only evidence that the host’s companion has stepped foot in the bar is the small dish of potpourri in the corner. Tête-à-tête starts nevertheless it by no means really ended from our preceding time together. It is a unending powwow. The same points are talked about each time – the endeavors and progresses of work, marriage, children and sports activities. Sometimes, and only after a few cocktails, religion and politics might come into the powwow. As individuals transfer from the bar to the pub table and back, the dialog drops and builds. The Television is on but it’s largely disregarded. This is just not the time to resolve main life difficulties. Some might say that nothing very important happens there. However, those of us who’ve a pal with a bar realize that simply spending time collectively and unwinding with associates in our personal exclusive location is the most important thing in the world.
After the night time, the chums unenthusiastically get up to move home. Even though it’s hard to set out for the evening, as the guests depart they recognize they will be seeing the bar, the customized bar mirrors, and even the vase of flowers once more shortly.
